Through Empathy Connections are Made
What a rush it was, standing on Olympic sand, hearing the American National Anthem being played. 1996 was a marker in my journey as I served as the first-ever Team Manager for a new Olympic sport called Beach Volleyball. It was an honor representing my country, but that honor quickly became a harsh reality when the market took a turn for the worst. Hundreds of thousands of lives were affected. There I sat, in 2009, after 20 years of professional coaching in the athletic world, and I found myself on government assistance and about to be homeless. It was at that point I made the determination not to roll over and become a statistic. I felt a calling to share my experiences and to make a difference by transforming people to lead with greater compassion. I further realized the gift I had for motivating others. Off I went to share a message of trust, empathy, and self-determination. One speaking engagement became five and so on. I quickly realized the thirst organizations had for true leadership change and it all started with the way we re-Think.
The name Third String came from the athletic term associated with the depth-chart on a roster. It was that depth-cart concept that drove me to develop a unique leadership model that challenged companies to invest in building leaders deep within their organization through communication, trust, empathy, and self-determination. I promise you...you'll never find another training like this.
